Distortion pedals that won't cause too much feedback
« on: July 18, 2010, 09:09:40 PM »
So i have recently purchased a ES-333 and i love it except for one problem. Whenever I play with my distortion pedal (Big Muff) I get tons of unwanted feedback. I heard this is a common problem on hollow electrics. Does anybody have any suggestions for a different pedal that can get great hi gain sounds but won't feedback as bad? I play through a Peavey Valveking 212. Thanks

edit: also, if any other ES-333 users can post some ideas on how to fight feedback but still get lots of distortion, that would be especially helpful!

thanks i'll give that a shot. Boss pedals have treated me well - I have the tuner and a digital delay, I also used to have the orange distortion

How are you guys liking the big muff, I hear it's much better/versitiale (i don't know how to spell that fucking word) than the Boss DS-1 which I have.

its two completely different pedals.

the boss ds-1 is a low end distortion. and the big muff is a fuzz/distortion that is pretty much unique, it adds different tone that you cant really get with anything else. and high gain distortion and it sounds great,, if thats what you are going for.

i used this pedal alot because of the low gain it has. we used it to layer the guitars on my bands latest songs

Yeah I've been listening to a lot of Silversun Pickups lately but their stuff isn't much fun to play because I can't get anything close to his guitar sound.

The amount of gain that a Muff has is going to add feedback, especially when you're close to an amp, and even more with a semi-hollowbody. Learn how to work with it, mute strings that you aren't playing, or shut off the muff when you're not playing.
