Lets Talk Telecasters
« on: August 01, 2010, 04:59:30 PM »
i know a few of you here use them so i wanna get the lowdown on them. basically, i've always been again them but watching two of my favorite bands recently, they both heavily use teles and i love the guitar sound they get. these bands being Paramore and Thrice. i've been debating selling my strat for whatever i can get because the work i want to get done on it to make it what i want it to be would cost as much as a new guitar

obviously some teles sound different from others but i want one with good cleans and little to no "twang" i'd rather have a really bright crunch. but not like a gibson crunch, something more subtle. something like the video below.

mainly the bridge pickup is what i'm more concerned with. its just such a crisp tone. i guess what i'm getting at is what would be a good choice for me if i do decide to get one? or should i stick with another strat? my budget is like 7-800 and under.

that guy has a fast track 2 in the bridge-its a crunchy, high output pickup in any guitar.  Its a really high output pickup that pushes the mids.  Drop that in your strat it will sound familiar I would expect.

I have a MIJ Thinline Tele with Duncan Quarterpounder Pickups. I really love the tone. Check out the Thinline models, they're absolutely different from the standard twangy Tele sounds.

You might as well check out the Jim Adkins Signature Tele with P90's. A friend of mine just recently bought it and it has an amazing sound.

I don't really understand wanting a Telecaster and not wanting that twangy sound. Honestly, in that case you might as well buy a Les Paul. A Tele with a hotter output pickup will get to LP territory quickly, and lose much of that great Fender snap.

I know I always come off as really opinionated, but get a used MIM tele, and put a lower output pickup in the bridge, or even something like a Duncan Broadcaster which is a bit higher output (9k) but still has the snarl and twang of a typical Telecaster. They sound awesome with a little bit of gain, and cut through the mix like you wouldn't believe. You'll probably find yourself playing with a little bit less gain than normal too.

thats not a bad idea either. i'm thinking i might just try to fix my strat. get new pickups in it. cause it will never sell for what i want with a broken pickup

500t 496r i think? the stock ones for les paul classics (which they no longer make). like i lvoe the sound i get, but i need some versatility. i like the crispness i get from my sg but its a bit harsh

so i'm an impulsive buyer. i went down to guitar center today and found a really nice tele. the thinline one i believe and tried it out and can now honestly say that the feel of a tele just isnt for me. but i fell in love with a mexi standard strat for 500. its not a fat strat like all my previous ones have been. and i did end up buying it. i plan to see how much it'll cost to fix my previous strat with the pickup problem so then i can just sell it. and over time i'm probably goign to upgrade my new strat with better pickups, bridge, tuning pegs etc. i'll post some pics later

the pickups and knobs are an ivory color, not white. they just look bright from the camera flash. kinda david gilmour-esque

I put single coil humbuckers on my strat and I love it dearly. Seymour Duncan Duckbusters I believe, for my neck and bridge pickups.
