Weezer discussion thread
« on: August 08, 2010, 03:22:25 PM »

I blame Aria (his signature does feature weez in all their blue album glory), but somehow nobody has made this topic yet.

New Weezer album next month named "Hurley". Also, they've left their label and signed with punk/indie/terriblegrind-core Epitaph records. This will be their first relese not on a major label and not on Geffen. Also, Rivers says this album will have a "60's" feel. But what represents a "60s sound" to Rivers, could be anything. I'm expecting pop/rock close to Green Album. But that's pretty much a blind guess.

Now commence with the "Weezer's last (x) records have been terrible. Pinkerton and Blue are amazing!" posts.

Honestly, they should just turn up the fuzz and they'd be so in style.

I saw them live a few weeks ago and it was amazing. I quite liked them opening for blink last year but this was on a whole other level.

I'll definitely check out the new album.

I still haven't listened to Ratitude. I did like their singles though. But so many people were negative about it, I just rather listen to Piebald or something weezer-like.

But I have been listening to Love Explosion from Maladroit. That song so needs to be played at a festival.

love explosion is one of my favorite weezer songs, and I think maladroit is a very undrrated album. Of course pinkerton and blue were the best but bands change if they kept making albums that sounded like those 2 it'd get boring. Why would you want 6-7 albums like that constantly? Some people are just selfish and unable to accept a band changing, if you don't like it thats fine. But just saying I can appreciaite a band going in a different direction with music. I think weezer has done a good job with that, are their newer albums amazing? No I don't think so but I do like them. Gotta give them a chance, def looking forward to this new album. I did like Raditude a lot actually.

I thought Raditude was an awesome album minus a few songs. This new song sounds pretty good too.
Also I think the "Date Fell short" part is used far too much and with too many different variations which gives the song a lack of a decent ending. Obviously the end is the "Date Feel Short" part with the band fully going at it, but we've already heard it so much in the song prior, it just doesn't quite get me.

There are a shit load of people who have no life.

Well, the thing is, Rivers can create some amazing music. Ever check out his demo albums of his home recordings he has released? Some of those songs could so easily be polished (some don't even need it) and be amazing weezer songs. On par with Pinkerton or Green Album. Maladroit is a great album in it's own right. But it's just perplexing that Rivers can be such a great artist, then come out with songs like We Are On Drugs or Beverly Hills, which are catchy, but corny, and disposable. The guy needs a good producer to get him to lay down the magic. Also, Rivers is getting old, he's married, and just doesn't have the youth his music was known for way back then. He's lost sincerity. I could go on and on. But I agree, Weezer tries to evolve and be different. Which is a good trait for any band, but they seem to be regressing instead of progressing.

Nah I hear what ya mean, certain songs like the ones you mentioned We Are on Drugs or Beverly Hills were clearly like radio hit songs made for that purpose. And I will just either skip them when listening to an album or what not. And yes a lot of those older demos could def be great weezer songs. I mean if you've heard any of the pinkerton demos they were great coulda easily been put out onto an album. But with each new weezer album I do give it a few listens through to try and see how I feel about it. Since Maladroit for me at least I've only enjoyed a handful of songs on most of their newer albums. From Make Belive on there are songs that I could do without, but there are still some great songs. Hold Me from Make Believe is a great fucking song, it's nice to see Rivers and Weezer still shine through on songs like that. Even if a lot of the other songs aren't up to par.

Yeah, i've always enjoyed The Damage In Your Heart from Make Believe. Also, Hold Me, This Is Such A Pitty, and Perfect Situation are great Weezer songs.

Oh, I'm sorry. I said something you didn't like, that means I should probably hold back from saying anything right?

No it's just that you never seem to have anything positive to say. So why say it at all. It's almost as if you state your opinion as if its a fact. "This is going to suck" So just cause you said it with your negativity you're automatically set on thinking it will suck. Without even having heard the album at all yet. Could be some songs that you enjoy on it, you just seem like a close minded negative person if thats how you wanna be.
