Looks like the BBC finally caught on...
« on: September 02, 2010, 04:43:47 AM »
First off they ignore the fact that Blink had the biggest Reading crowd in years and show just 2 songs on BBC3's coverage of Reading compared to 6 songs from fucking Klaxons (who were in the NME tent).

Fast-forward a few days later, and they realise Blink have the most views on the iPlayer and finally put their picture on the festival front page:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/music/festivals/readingandleeds/2010/

"Blink-182, G N' R & Biffy are the top 3 most watched #readingfestival sets on http://bit.ly/bbcrlfest . Who do you think are 4,5 and 6?"

http://twitter.com/BBCreadingfest

Seeing as every newspaper/magazine had reporters out at the festival and saw the size of the crowds for Blink compared to the other "big" bands... I wonder if this means the band will start getting the attention it deserves over here now, especially with the new album.

I know they have been on the radio loads over here, but only a few of their songs have ever gotten A-listed, compared to the other garbage you here everyday.

You do realise that you can see more than two songs don't you....

They have 28 minutes worth up here

http://www.bbc.co.uk/music/festivals/readingandleeds/2010/artists/blink182/

That's what I'm talking about... but when Reading is broadcast on TV, every night they play MOST of the headliner's set. Blink got 2 songs on the TV coverage the night they headlined, and British band Klaxons got 6 or 7 songs broadcast.

i think you guys get this wrong. i'm pretty sure that it wasn't bbc that didnt want to broadcast more of blinks footage but the band who wouldnt let them. most big bands are pretty careful what they want to have shown on tv. thats why on the biggest german festival rock am ring you usually get lots of footage from the bands in the afternoon and eveing but when it comes to headliners the presenters tell you this or that band doesnt want to be broadcasted live but maybe we may show some songs they chose afterwards later that eveing. as seen with rammstein, muse and the like. also blink will have their own live dvd out later this year. why would they want a free tv shot of a full set before?

@markhoppus @travisbarker Congrats you're the most watched #readingfestival set on http://bit.ly/bbcrlfest

so everyone wants to see blink, yet this week on bbc3 they show full sets of the best bands of reading and blink isnt one of them :?

"People call me the porcupine, because I'm the porcupine of all the fellas! I go clubbin' every single night, and I don't give a fuck coz I'm the Porky Pine, club boy, clubbin' every single night, New York, L.A., London.... Tokyo, everywhere!"

The Reading coverage nearly always plays the headliner's slot in full... I think it was more down to the producers trying to promote their shitty ass friends' bands (they even had Klaxons on for an interview to plug their album).

Blink were swearing a lot (even during the songs)... so it could have taken them a lot of time to edit.

But I think its mainly down to the fact that a lot of producers/presenters at BBC Radio One (who were also behind the festival) are Indie-focused and genuinely believe that more people in the country are into Klaxons/The Drums/Foals/Band of Horses than a band like Blink.

Some of these bands are good, but they weren't the main fucking attraction!

This is the point I was trying to make a while back, that blink don't get as much attention in the UK as they deserve.

We're really NOT that in to indie. It's just the people at the bbc think we want something different because that's 'what's cool'. And it really isn't. It pisses me off.

Here are these shitty little bands, most of which I haven't even heard of, and I listen to BBC Radio 1 about 10 hours a week AND download the podcasts, that I haven't even heard of! And they're shit. But here's blink who are only getting more attention only AFTER the bbc realise 85,000 people obviously wanted to see them and stayed til the end.

To be honest the radio stations over here dont seem to know what is actually decent music anymore - they just play what sells, which makes sense for them - it must be what people wanna hear.

BLINK-182 are a multi-million album selling band in the UK alone. So why don't the music peoples open their fuckign eyes, do some fucking research and GET BLINK ON THE FUCKING TV.

By today's standard blink-182 are several times platinum in the UK alone, but they only play 2 songs of theirs over the entire weekend of Reading AND Leeds. I was bloody surprised they played 2 songs to be honest!

And they so rocked :) It's awesome to have full-on Blink back.

They've finally decided to stream Blink's performance all day saturday on the red button, definitely gonna be recording this...quality will be much better & in previous years the performances on TV get like 1 or 2 extra songs that aren't shown on the internet highlights
