Honestly, I don't understand it. I mean yeah he is a great drummer but why is he the idol of so many drummers. I seriosuly think there are so many better drummers out there that he doesnt really deserve the credit he gets as compared to some of the other talented drummers out there. I am a guitarist and I meet a lot of drummers and I jam with a lot of people and for some reason they all share one thing in common, they all want to be travis barker's boy friend. What the hell? seriosuly?

I realise now as I got older there's a lot more talent people.

i find that whenever i try to defend travis on youtube or something people always rip shit and say how much he sucks. but he doesnt suck. he's very creative with his work.

i think its more than just his ability that people are drawn to when they start playing drums. when you watch him play, you can tell he is enjoying every single second he sits on a throne... and he looks good when he's doing it. im a drummer, and dave grohl and travis barker were the two people that really inspired me to play, simply because they LOOK like they are having fun when they beat the crap out their drums.

any drummer knows there are better and more technical drummers than travis, but i would watch travis do a solo ANY day over, say, carter beuford, dave weckl, or steve gadd. most drummers that are influenced by travis when they start playing probably play louder or faster music.. and want to look good playing live. i HAAATE watching drummers not move or look happy when they play energetic music, and when you are being influenced by probably the funnest drummer to watch, you'll likely start playing like him.

because Travis is the fucking man.

i play nothing like Travis, i'm attracted more to the physical aspect of metalcore drumming... but his drumming has influenced me musically more than anybody. I wouldn't be half as good as i am now if it wasn't for take off your pants and jacket. He is a fucking legend.

To be honest, its because he's a high profile drummer, is instantly recognisable, has extensive sponsorship with big/trendy companies and is always adding something tasteful and appropriate to whatever he's playing.

From a drummers perspective, he's phenomenal with what he can add to a song, but there are much better technical players out there. He's sometimes a little sloppy with rolls and such, but that's part of the beauty of his style.

Irrespective of whether you love or hate him, when he starts playing, you instantly know its him, and that's a big part of the reason I think.

Personally, he's one of my favourites, simply because of his style and stage presence, but he's not in any way the best drummer in the world.

He played with his left foot for about a year when he broke his ankle, I'm sure he'd be up to it. Probably not advanced stuff, but he'd be competent.

he's not the best drummer but i think it's the drummer that everyone wants to cover when they are starting to drum (me for example), i think his style and his speed are really what captures the attention...

also, because his songs are the most fun to cover
