He's easily my favourite frontman to any band right now.

Such a powerful voice and writes such incredible lyrics,The 59' Sound has to be the best album I've heard in years.  The lyrics really sound like they are from the 50's; the more you hear the album the more you can agree with that statement.

The guy is also one of the most genuinly nice, down to earth musicians I've ever encountered.  When I saw him live a few months ago he was always smiling, saying things like "thank you so much you guys, I'm so glad you were able to take time out of your week to see our band play.  we really appreciate it, we were shining shoes just to get this album produced, so it means alot to us".

Anyways, some songs:

For the most part, I think The Gaslight Anthem are a little over rated. But id rather have the kids listening to this than half the junk that litters the scene.

I don't think they're overrated, the hype just doesn't suit them. Pity though. Seeing them in a small venue with a class support act like Frank Turner is something wonderful, haha.

I agree, I don't see them as over-rated at all.
In fact, I've only ever met 1 person in real life that knows who they are.  I've also never seen any of their music videos played on MTV or MuchMusic.  They play $15 shows at the Commodore in Vancouver, which is unheard of.

there's enough room for both of them.

Springsteen + Bouncing Souls + Gaslight Anthem = Jersey Win!

that cover of "american girl" wasn't very good.
sounded super empty for having 2 guitar players.

also, i saw tom petty last year and nothing can top when they play it, sorry.

lol obviously nothing will top the original.
but I think it's awesome that Fallon is a Petty fan and plays covers during shows.  also note that the video was just from a handheld cam-corder, it sounded a little better when I saw them live.

Well, none of those things really go into what I would consider "over-rated". People have high regards for them because they have a huge amount of scene cred. Hell, even some hipsters can dig them. I've met a few people who adore this band to pieces.

With that said, these guys are fucking awesome though. Now if bands like this could be on Warped this year, I'd might be going.

I think they are like a hype right now. Don't get me wrong. TGA are an awesome band, their last record is BRILLIANT. But well, now is the moment in which everyone likes them. It's good, because they are good.

I thought the same thing when I first heard the single, The 59' Sound.
But after hearing the album alot and listening to their first album, he definitely has a different sounding voice.  Much more folkish, it's the Jersey culture.

wtf

the killers as in brandom flowers and co?

Haha, my thoughts exactly.

I guess Americans have such different references. I would have named bands like Against Me!, The Hold Steady and even Alkaline Trio sound more alike than The Killers.
